Nike Reveal The New Sam Kerr Nike Mercurial Superfly

Nike have revealed Sam Kerr’s first signature boot — the Sam Kerr Nike Mercurial Superfly is both a tribute to the past, and a reminder to think about the future.

The striker’s debut collection is a tribute to her 11-year journey to the top of the professional game, drawing upon her innate tenacity on the field, as well as her proud Australian heritage.

The Sam Kerr Nike Mercurial Superfly features a light, neutral palette inspired by the sand of Australian beaches, which is bolstered by vibrant accents of teal, pink, and orange — an ode to Sam’s hometown, Perth. The boot is highly personalised, with key phrases, like Kerr’s ‘Consistent’ mantra, adorned across the upper in a unique tattoo style. There are also repeated references to pivotal seasons in her career — her 2009 debut with the Matildas, 2017 Golden Boot and landmark 2020 Chelsea FC campaign.

The new Mercurial also reflects Kerr and Nike’s joint commitment to empowering the next generation of female footballers. Not only is her signature emblazoned on the heel of every boot, ensuring every athlete has a signed pair, but the sock liner also includes messages of support for the next generation to embrace their true selves on and off the pitch, with  “Be who I am” on one foot and “Be who you are” on the other.

The significance of role models is evident by the stripe down the toe of the boot, which pays homage to Cathy Freeman, the iconic Australian sprinter who famously wore a one-piece Nike bodysuit while taking gold in the 400-meter run 25 years ago in Sydney. At the top of the stripe is a reference to Cathy’s 2000 Olympic win; at the bottom are the Roman numerals XX, a reference to Sam’s jersey number.

The debut collection also includes a Nike Field General sneaker and oversized fleece hoodie that pay homage to her game and style. The sneaker complements the colour palette and design elements of the Mercurial boot, incorporating personal messages on the upper and tongue, along with Sam’s signature at the ankle. Both pieces pair with a performance top and shorts that mirror the colour palette of Sam’s Player Edition model, reinforcing the collection’s cohesive visual identity and Sam’s connection to her Australian roots.

Sam Kerr’s Player Edition of the Nike Mercurial Superfly, her performance apparel and sportswear collection, will be available in Australia beginning August 28. The boot, performance apparel and sportswear will be available globally at nike.com and select retail locations on September 2.
